WILDLIFE TOUR, GORILLAS TREKKING, KIVU LAKE, CHIMPANZEE, CANOPY WALK
Day 1 - Transfer to Akagera National Park
Upon arrival in Kigali in the afternoon, we’ll schedule a meeting for the introduction and tour briefings drive to the Kigali memorial site after, Transfer to Akagera Game Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2 - Game Drive and Boat Ride on Lake Ihema
Be up for breakfast at 6.30 and start the game drive at 7.00am. This early morning game drive is a great opportunity to catch the early risers and the predators/nocturnal before they return to their hideouts.
Expect great sightings of elephants, buffalos, giraffes, gazelles, spotted hyenas, impalas, lions, baboons, warthogs, bushbucks, topi, oribis, and leopards. After three hours of wildlife sightings you return to the lodge for lunch and brief relaxation.
After the lunch break you go for the afternoon boat ride on Lake Ihema. The boat ride offers great wildlife sightings including hippos and crocodiles at a close encounter. Lake Ihema offers a great opportunity for bird watching with over 500 bird species including the shoebill stork, herons, jacanas, ibis, gonolek among others. After the exciting boat ride you drive back to the lodge to relax, have Dinner and overnight.
Days 3 - Game Drive, Transfer back to Kigali
Be up for breakfast at 6.00am, check out and start yet another exciting game drive. Expect more wildlife sightings. After the game drive continue and drive to Kigali City for drop-off for Kigali city tour, relax in Kigali and Afterwards transfer to Musanze for overnight Gorilla Hotel
Day 4-Gorilla Trekking
In the morning after wakeup call and early breakfast you will drive to the Volcanoes National Park HQs for briefing at 0700hrs to be allocated to a Gorilla tracking group, thereafter head to the start of the trail of an amazing adventure.
Upon sighting the gorillas, you will be allowed one hour with them as they go about their daily life.
Mountain Gorillas (Gorilla beringei) which inhabit the slopes of the Virunga volcanoesare a subspecies of the Eastern Gorilla, the largest living primate on earth. They are massive - with a short and thick trunk, broad chest and shoulders, longer arms than the stubby legs, their eyes and ears dwarfed by the large head, a flat nose and large nostrils and a shiny black muzzle.
Their fur is mainly black, but adult males have a silvery "saddle" on their back thus the name Silverbacks. The face, hands, feet and breast are bald. A fully grown male can be twice as large as a female and weigh up to 220 kg. The tallest silverback recorded was 1.94m and the heaviest, a 1.83m silverback, weighed about 266 kg.
Day 5 Kivu Lake
Afterwards Transfer to the Lake Kivu - Lake Kivu is the largest of numerous freshwater lakes that shimmer in the valleys of Rwanda. Steep terraced hills lead down to the picturesque lake shore, and three resort towns, Gisenyi, Kibuye and Cyangugu, are an ideal stopping point to relax, swim, or take a boat excursion past the small lakeside villages that offer a rewarding glimpse of rural life. Days 6 – Relax at Lake Kivu
Relax at the Lake with a boat ride, later in the afternoon after lunch you will drive to Nyungwe Forest. Overnight at the Hotel
Day 7 – Chimpanzee and Canopy Walk
Following breakfast, proceed to the Park HQs for a Chimpanzee Trek. Briefing at 07:00, then enter the park for a half day expedition in search of the primates.
Besides being so high in such a picturesque location, the walk allows access to the upper parts of the forest, where one can see some unique ‘canopy’ species; apes, birds, butterflies, plants and insects, flowers, leaves and other animals that live in the roof of the forest WHICH are otherwise invisible but can now be seen at eye level, or even from above. It is an unforgettable experience. Overnight at the Hotel
Day 8 – Transfer to Kigali
This Morning after an early breakfast you will drive to Kigali with a stop at Butare National Miseums for cultural and in Nyanza to visit the Royal Kingdom and be entertained with In the more modern Palace building, once the residence of King Mutara III Rudahigwa, there is a wide range of implements and photographs appertaining to the Kingdom and Kings (Mwami) while in an adjacent hill are the graves of King Mutara III himself (of whose death just before independence the Belgians were suspected of) as well as that of his wife Queen Rosalie Gicanda who was killed during the Rwandan genocide in 1994.Lunch at Nyanza Hertage Hotel , transfer to Kigali overnight Hotel
Day 9 – Kigali memorial and Kigali Presidential Museum
After breakfast you will drive the Kigali presidential Museum. After lunch in the afternoon will be time for local markets and Crafts. Overnight
